Social Worker/RISE Program

Job Type: Full Time
Responsible for providing youth development services to young people between the ages of 16 to 21. The RISE Social Worker is responsible for both Pre-release and Post-release work with youth with involvement in the criminal justice system. The RISE Social Worker will provide formal life skills counseling to youth in both individual and group sessions.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop strong rapport with all youth based on a strengths based perspective.
- Provide Pre-Release discharge planning and group workshops on Rikers Island.
- Work with Discharge Planning staff at Rikers Island to determine needs of youth prior to release.
- Work with Department of Probation, Legal Aid and other referral sources to ensure appropriate referral of youth participants.
- Assess and develop goals plan with all program participants.
- Provide weekly individual life skills counseling for all participants.
- Facilitate weekly life skills workshops for all participants on caseload.
- Flexible hours to include some evenings.
- Maintain confidential records of each youth to include weekly progress reports as well as other related documents.
- Provide referring agencies with update progress reports as needed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with potential partnering agencies. Provide appropriate referrals to partnering agencies for additional services when needed.
- Model and uphold ALL agency rules.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Provide coverage for other direct service staff as needed.
- Travel on public transportation throughout NYC required for staff meetings, service delivery and recruitment.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
- An MSW degree, or other clinical masters degree, from an accredited college or university required. An LMSW preferred.
- A minimum of six years experience in youth work and or youth counseling.
- Demonstrated skills and competency in youth development.
- Demonstrated ability to engage high risk adolescent youth.
- Understanding of conflict resolution, mediation and mentoring concepts.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to speak professionally to staff, members, parents, groups and community residents.
- Spanish speaking a plus (not required).
