PAL hosts annually four or more special events which involve a lavish lunch or dinner gathering of 300 or more special guests. These events honor prominent New York City leaders, outstanding in some respect, who are also good friends of PAL. Ticket sales for these Events are a major source of PAL’s private revenue, amounting to millions of dollars each year.

Throughout the year, PAL Centers host small recognition events for children, their families and residents in the surrounding community. Potluck dinners and Appreciation dinners on special holidays with entertainment provided by PAL children are perennial favorites.
There are annual citywide events in which all Centers participate, such as the Brotherhood/Sisterhood Art Contest and Tell It Like It Is, a public speaking contest. PAL is well known for its citywide sports events including the Tournament of Champions. This unusual tournament involves nontraditional games – ping pong, double dutch, foosball – and academic contests like math, Scholar Bowl and spelling bees. The emphasis is on working in teams and practicing good sportsmanship.
