Police Athletic League Annual Holiday Party
Bring Holiday Cheer to 1,000 Children
Published 15 December, 2008
On December 13, 2008, over 1,000 boys and girls, ages six to 10, from all five boroughs, gathered at the PAL 369th Harlem Armory Center, on West 143rd Street in Manhattan, for the Police Athletic League Annual Holiday Party. Youngsters enjoyed a festive holiday party filled with arts and crafts, carnival games, inflatable rides, goodybags, candy, face-painting and a visit from Santa Claus. Talented young dancers, singers, steppers and musicians from PAL centers entertained the partygoers with special performances that celebrated the season and provided holiday cheer.
PAL Chairman Robert Morgenthau, Police Commissioner and Honorary PAL President Raymond Kelly, PAL President John Osborn, PAL Board Member and Holiday Party Co-Chairs John and Margo Catsimatidis and special guests joined PAL youngsters for the holiday extravaganza.
On behalf of boys and girls throughout the city, the Police Athletic League thanks the New York City Police Department for participating in PAL Play Streets, youth centers, sporting leagues, summer programs and cultural activities. The celebration was one of many PAL Holiday Parties that brought happiness and toys to thousands of youngsters at PAL centers and police precincts in their own communities.
The Police Athletic League Annual Holiday Party celebrations were made possible by the generosity and holiday spirit of hundreds of caring New Yorkers including John and Margo Catsimatidis, Apple & Eve, Canada Dry, Coca Cola, Edie’s Ice Cream, Herr’s Snacks, Hershey, M&M Candy, Nabisco Foods, Pepsi Cola, Quaker Foods, Snapple, Stella D’Oro, George Weston Bakeries and Wrigley’s.
The Police Athletic League, founded in 1914, has been serving New York City’s young people for more than 90 years. PAL provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to tens of thousands of boys and girls annually. It is the city’s largest, independent, nonprofit youth organization.
