THANK YOU NEW YORK LIFE FOUNDATION!
For a generous three year grant of $405,000 to establish a CASTLE program at PAL’s Miccio Center in Red Hook, Brooklyn, beginning spring 2007.  CASTLE (Children’s Academic Success Through Literacy Enhancement), a year long early childhood education program with a parental involvement component, is designed to improve the academic achievements of second through fourth graders through after-school educational and counseling services that reinforce the lessons of the school day.

NEIGHBORHOOD ALL STAR TEAM (“NAT”) SUMMER CAMP
On July 9th, the Police Athletic League began the 6th season of its Neighborhood All Star Team (“NAT”) summer camp.  Located at the Brooklyn Cyclones’ KeySpan Park, in the shadow of the famed Coney Island parachute drop, the camp offers three 2-week fun filled sessions of instruction in baseball, math, language arts and life skills to boys and girls aged nine to fourteen.  In addition to enjoying a valuable camp experience, participants also are served a nutritious breakfast and lunch courtesy of the Department of Education summer meals program. This year, participants will meet players from the Brooklyn Cyclones who will speak to the campers about the importance of proper nutrition and exercise. The summer camp is a part of a year round NAT’s Kids program designed to assist youngsters in the Coney Island area prepare for, and succeed in high school and thereafter.  Started in 2002 by Mr. Fred Wilpon, owner of the NY Mets, and PAL, NAT’s Kids operates through the generous support of the Brooklyn Cyclones, KeySpan and the Independence Community Foundation.
