We thank you - our supporters and families - for another successful summer at PAL. More than 5,000 young people made PAL their second home – participating in our summer camps, PAL PLAYSTREETS, teen centers and Summer Youth Employment Program.
Our campers took part in a wide range of educational activities such as PAL Cultural Day where they demonstrated what they learned about Traveling Through Time – from ancient Egypt to the disability rights movement.
Several of our PAL teens spent a week at SUNY Purchase College learning about the theater and the arts and getting an intimate college experience. Our young people also visited Gettysburg, learning about leadership and integrity, and The College of Charleston in South Carolina, immersing themselves in the history of our nation’s birth.
Now that our young people are back to school, PAL is continuing to support their personal growth through our afterschool and teen programs.
For example, we are rolling out a new curriculum that will teach our afterschool youth life and business skills such as decision-making, public speaking and marketing.
And speaking of teens, I hope you will join us on Thursday, September 19th, for the Tony Danza and the Stars of Tomorrow benefit. This annual performance led by our board member Tony Danza features surprise celebrity guests, PAL teens and NYPD officers – all in support of the PAL Acting program serving more than 500 teens.
In the coming months, I will continue to update you on our progress to engage and inspire our young people. We also have very active Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram accounts where we regularly inform you about our work with young people in New York City.
Thank you to our supporters like you for making PAL’s programs possible.
