Five Ways for Parents and Kids to Be Active This Spring

As Earth Day draws near and the weather turns to sunshine and milder temperatures, keep in mind that a healthy lifestyle includes regular physical activity.  At least 60 minutes a day is best, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

As a parent or guardian, you have a huge effect on how your child feels and behaves regarding physical activity. Here are five ways to start:

  • Set a good example by engaging in regular physical activity yourself.

  • Take family walks or play active games together to make physical activity part of your family’s daily routine.

  • Offer your kids toys and sports equipment that encourage physical activity and make it fun.

  • Make good use of places where they can be active, including parks, community athletic fields, or basketball courts.

  • Decrease your own screen time and encourage your child to do the same. Instead, encourage fun activities such as walking, playing chase and hide and seek, or riding bikes.
