PAL Summer Day Camp

PAL Summer Day Camp programs are designed to stimulate learning, foster creativity, and facilitate an appreciation of cultural diversity. Each year, PAL designs a thematic curriculum that focuses on a specific culture and/or historical subject. Each PAL Summer Day Camp is assigned a nation or region, culture and historical period to study. Throughout the summer, children work together on dance routines, costumes, art displays, skits and other performances. Throughout a series of annual PAL Kids Events, PAL youth display their skills at several performances, sporting events and arts and crafts showcases throughout New York City. PAL Summer Day Camp offers young people opportunities to explore cultural institutions, parks and sports venues. Field trips include visits to the Museum of Natural History, Central Park and Shea Stadium.

Summer Special Events

Cultural Day Festival is a showcase of costumes, language, crafts, and dance performances. Children from each center prepare costumes and a colorful banner which are showcased during the opening parade. They also prepare an interactive exhibit that is reflective of the culture of study, as well as a dance. Cultural Day also includes the “Knowledge Bowl” and “Sportsmanship Competition”. Carnival consists of home-made cultural games connected to the summer’s theme and created by the campers. At Mini-Carnival children participate in theme-related Arts & Crafts activities, and play giant-sized board games like Connect Four and Checkers. The day is highlighted by  blow-up carnival rides that provide the participants with hours of endless fun. PAL Olympics at Riverbank State Park begins with a parade and banner contest. The day consists of a myriad of sporting events that children practice during the summer including: Volleyball, Tennis, Track & Field, Pitch, Hit & Run, Punt, Pass and Kick, Soccer and Basketball.
